Oct 2025: Dread Mondays Launch 10/25

Hello beautiful mammals. Welcome back or welcome here!

I'm Xochilt Avila, an indie author of speculative fiction and non-fiction. Spoiler: I'm tinkering with the idea of revising my penname, perhaps to just X Avila or Xavila. We'll see. Can I edit my blog name on Ghost? I might have to find out!

This update will be short and sweet. Mainly I want to highlight my short story "Closed for Maintenance" in the upcoming anthology Dread Mondays with Whisper House Press. Which is launching THIS Saturday, Oct 25th! AAAH!!!

It's been an absolute pleasure working with Editor Steve Capone, Jr. My story is tense, disgusting, and staunchly pro-Union. I really hope you check it out!

The anthology's launch aligns with the inaugural Utah Horror Day, which I tragically won't be joining, but it looks like an incredible event. If you're in the area, you should absolutely swing by.

Other Updates

Upfront, I've been a little distracted since the new Pokemon game came out, but I'm still writing and slinging out stories. I'm currently working on about half a dozen, as well as an outline for a full-length novel centered around a supernatural cult in Mojave, California. Think "Little Miss Sunshine" meets "X-Men."

My short essay in Poisoned Soup for the Macabre, Depraved, and Insane is still slated for a December release. More info on that later.

Lastly, I've been getting into sourdough baking, and I'm now officially semi-decent. The loafs actually taste good.
